This Golborne Road site is swapping Anatolia for Berlin

The space that used to house contemporary ocakbasi restaurant The Counter, run by Turkish chef Kemal Demirasal, is soon flipping into the Berlin-inspired Kiez Kebab. Named after the Berlin term for a neighbourhood, Kiez Kebab will be a casual spot, decked out with steel, glass, concrete and walnut interiors and a bespoke sound system.

The menu will be tight; according to Restaurant Magazine, it’ll be focused around veal, chicken and vegan kebabs served in pide. We’re assuming the spicy, garlic and herb sauces popular in Berlin döner kebabs will be there in some form. The drinks list will be similarly curated, featuring batched cocktails, German and Austrian beers, and wines.

London’s not short on kebabs but aside from German Doner Kebab, there’s not that many places doing German or Berlin-style ones, so we’re intrigued to see how Kiez makes its mark on the city.
