Below decks Aluna Ben Willoughby is proving to be the most annoying cast member in franchise history, and has a chance to be fired in season 11. Ben first appeared in the OG’s groundbreaking tenth season under Captain Lee and temporarily under Captain Sandy Yawn. During Season 10, Ben was promoted from Deckhand to Lead Deckhand by Ross McHarg. That season, he went boating with Camille Lamb and shocked another flight attendant, Alissa Humber.

Ben is back Below decks season 11 under captain Kerry Titheradge. He was originally the leader, but was promoted to Bosun when Jared Woodin left the boat for mental health reasons. Ben has five years of experience in the sailing industry and has previously worked as a Bosun. Ben is from the Gold Coast, Australia and in his free time he loves active sports, traveling and photography. Ben is on Bosu’s motor yacht St. David, which is the largest vessel Below decks history at 60 meters (197 ft). Now that Below decks viewers have gotten to know Ben, there’s a lot not to like.

Ben loves to spread gossip

He can’t help himself

Ben has a tendency to get involved in inner ward drama, which only causes more problems and friction. Ben doesn’t try to rationalize and often takes sides and has bad feelings for his crewmates based on drama he has no business with. Ben has shown his immaturity in Below Deck season 11 when he gossiped to Stew Barbie Pascual that Stew Cat Baugh had expressed to manager Stew Fraser Olender that he was having trouble with Barbie (through Bravo.) Ben wasn’t just eavesdropping, he was also maliciously trying to create tension and sow uneasiness in the interior.

Fraser has hit out at Ben’s gossiping and meddling characterizes him as someone who needs attention. Fraser thinks Ben is stirring the pot to get attention and make connections with crew members. Even as Bosun, Ben can’t step into a neutral and supportive leadership role and still wants to be at the center of gossip and drama, which speaks to his character.

Ben plays with women’s emotions

Ben hasn’t been a good partner

Ben has proven himself disrespectful to women, objectifying them and trying to get away with anything he can. He was obsessed with Camille in Below Deck Season 10, but tried to blame everything about the end of their relationship on her. Also, this season Ben has been sleeping with Sunny Marquis and she hasn’t been treating him well.

When new stew Paris Field joined the crew, Ben was instantly and obviously smitten, so much so that he tried to touch Paris’ waist whenever he could. His outrageous acts caught the attention of Sunny who yelled at him for being lazy and too sensitive with Paris (through Bravo.) Ben was also too flirtatious with fellow stew Xandi Olivier and didn’t understand how his behavior negatively affected and embarrassed Sunny.

Ben is full of himself

Ben thinks he’s the best

Ben never criticizes himself, but he is happy to share criticism with others. Ben is overconfident in his Bosun skills and ability to be an effective leader. He lets his promotion go to his head and doesn’t see himself as mediocre as he is.

Ben dares to touch other women in front of his love interest, showing how much he believes he can get away with bad behavior.

Ben comes across as annoying because of his self-centered attitude and expression that he can do no wrong.

On the screen, the mid-season trailer (via Bravo) looked Captain Kerry talks to Ben those are the harshest words Captain Kerry has ever spoken to a crew member.

“That’s blatant disrespect. You’re a fucking Bosun, mate.”

At this point, viewers don’t know exactly what Ben did to get in Captain Kerry’s crosshairs, but it had to be serious for Captain Kerry to talk to him like that. The Wild Incident is about Ben’s abilities as a Bosun and his ability to respect his captain.

Off screen, there is even more drama between Captain Kerry and Ben. In a recent interview with Captain Kerry, he said that Ben wasn’t his first choice for Bosun and avoided Ben not making it through the season. Ben took Captain Kerry’s words as an attack on his work ethic and character.

“It is very unfortunate that Captain Kerry has chosen to speak about my role as Bosun in the current season of Below Deck.”

Ben creates drama with Captain Kerry, taking his interview review as a personal attack that affects his reputation. It is unprofessional for Ben to berate his former captain and his social media behavior makes him look immature and could affect his role Below decks franchises in the future.

Ben is a hypocrite

He can eat food but can’t take it

Ben has also shown himself to be a big hypocrite, which is also not a good look. Ben doesn’t like his crew talking negatively about him and his decisions behind his back, but he has no problem stirring the pot and saying rude things about his crewmates behind their backs.

Namely, in the last episode, Ben didn’t like Deckhand Dylan Pierre Villiers badmouthing him about his decision to promote Sunny to lead Deckhand.

“It’s not about competence, it’s about attitude on deck, and him going around to other crew members is obviously not on. If anyone is upset and needs a discussion about my decision, come talk to me. Instead, he’s talking. it’s not good for the other crew in my books.”

The Below decks the season 11 edit then showed footage of Ben from the five charters before trash-talking Jared to anyone who would listen and undermining Jared’s authority. Ben has shown what a terrible character he has and how he has no respect for authority or his crew mates, making him the most annoying actor. Below decks history.
