Earlier in the season, before Ben was promoted to Bosun, he took part in a “boat trip” with another deckhand, Sunny Marquis. The controversy arose when Ben decided to promote Sunny to Lead Deckhand, which seemed like a conflict of interest because he didn’t end his relationship with Sunny.. Dylan mentioned that he thought Sunny only got the job because she had an affair with Ben, and Dylan then spread rumors about Sunny.

Although Ben’s recent messes have been very disrespectful to Captain Kerry, Ben hasn’t been terrible all season, although he does tend to be a bit full of himself. He understands how to work on a boat and what needs to be done to make things run smoothly, but Ben’s attitude towards other people and his superiors could use a lot of work if he wants to continue climbing the leadership ladder in sailing. Captain Kerry’s angry conversation with Ben and Kyle about their blatant disrespect for him hopefully shakes Ben up.
