A much-loved Greenwich cake shop is to leave London after 14 years. Ruby’s of London is a plant-based bakery that started in Greenwich Market in 2010 and was known for its vegan cakes and milkshakes.

However, the popular cake shop has decided to move from London and focus on its second bakery in Tunbridge Wells. In a post on Instagram, the bakery’s owner, Ruby Amarteifio, shared the news that the Greenwich site would be closing for good.

She said: “I’ve come to a bit of a crossroads for many reasons, personal reasons, business reasons and have made the decision that I will unfortunately be closing our Greenwich store.”

She remembered the first stall at Greenwich Market, back in 2010. “Greenwich has been the most wonderful start to the business. I’ve met some great people, great friends, great, loyal customers.

“You guys have been with me since the early days of my glittery cupcakes.” She thanked the bakery’s customers who would “show up every weekend”, and in all weathers.

But Ruby says she wants to focus more on the online side of the business, but also has some new ideas up her sleeve. There are “exciting” new offerings coming soon to the brand, including afternoon tea and an expanded range of wedding cakes.

She said: “Obviously I’m going to miss you all at Greenwich. We’ve had some great team members, great customers, great stories, and that’s all part of the Ruby story. So it’s kind of bittersweet.”

Ruby’s in Greenwich closed Tuesday, July 30. You can still visit Ruby’s in Tunbridge Wells in Kent, which is open seven days a week.
