Bachelorette season 21 Devin Strader made the shocking claim that he was Jenn Tran’s second choice when he posted private text messages between them in an attempt to defend himself. Jenn proposed to Devin at the end of the season, and he accepted and proposed to her in return. However, during Bachelorette in the season 21 episode “After the Final Rose”, Jenn revealed that Devin had broken up with her over the phone about a month before the finale aired.
“I wasn’t his first choice.”
In Instagram roll Devi revealed many of his private text messages with Jenni, although some were blacked out for privacy reasons. However, Devin’s most shocking comment was when he said, “I obviously had to see myself playing back-to-back, and that’s OK. We moved on from there. I wasn’t his first choice.”
Devin added that he didn’t blame Jenni for the feelings she had for runner-up Marcus Shoberg.but she was not told about them during their relationship. Devin also said that her decision to break up with him was on his mind “confirmed” by what he saw.

In “After the Final Rose”, Jenn told Devin that she was very hurt when he followed her ex-friend Maria on Instagram after they broke up. Devin said he followed Maria the week of August 14th, when she followed the crowd Bachelor Accounts of Nations, but he admitted, “regardless, it was still an ill-advised decision on my part. I made an emotionally charged decision, and Jenn and I were arguing at the time.” Devin said he apologized for that. He added that he does not know Maria and he will never follow Maria.

While it’s understandable that Devin wanted to tell his side of the story, especially since he didn’t say much on “After the Final Rose,” he probably shouldn’t have shared his private text messages with Jenni. Bachelor Nation already sees Devin as a villain and this only reinforces that idea in the minds of many viewers. However, It must have been hard for Devin to see Jenni tell Marcus she loved him before he told herespecially since she had told Devin that it was so hard for her to express her feelings.
Bachelorette season 21 had one of the most shocking and devastating finales. It was hard to watch Jenn sob as she watched the proposal, especially with Devin sitting next to her. However, Jenn is ready to move on with her life now that she’s competing Dancing with the stars season 33. As for Devin, he should probably lay low for a while if he ever hopes to redeem himself from his villainy. He likes to talk, but now that he’s said what he wanted to say, it’s probably better for him to keep a low profile.
