Most children tend to gravitate towards things with happy-sounding names, right? Right. There will, however, always – and I mean always – be an exception when it comes to Horrible Historiesand indeed Horrible Science; the latter of which is the subject of a colourful new interactive tour at Kew Gardens this summer.

London’s botanical beauty spot is always a good place to take the kids, but the added cocktail of ‘the summer’ and a lovely tour peppered with features from the much-adored Horrible Science books is certain to make the excitement fizz all the more. It’ll all come with your admission to Kew Gardenswhich includes the £1 ticket for those who receive Universal Credit, Pension Credit, plus other legacy benefits.

‘Horrible Science’ at Kew Gardens

Running from July 20 – September 1, the ‘Horrible Science’ interactive exhibition is jam-packed with moments that stem from the beloved (and best-selling) series of books written by Nick Arnold and beautifully illustrated by Tony De Saulles. Learn about the ‘Revolting Roots’ and ‘Foul Fungi’ as you and the family hop through the bizarre and brilliant tales of the horticultural world.

Alongside the inspiration from the pairs’ work, the interactive tour will be instructed by input from Kew’s own scientific and horticultural experts to allow visitors to weave through interactive installations on ‘Fiendish Flowers’, ‘Greedy Greenery’, and ‘Vicious Veg’. Essentially, the interactive tour is science-turned-gnarly in a way that the little ones will love and learn from – and not much trumps that combo on a family day out.

Should you wish to dive into the world of the ‘Horrible Science’ tour at Kew Gardens, you’ll just need a General Admission ticket (which will, of course, get you access to the rest of the botanical beauty on display). These can be booked right here! Remember, kids under four also go free to Kew Gardens.
