Reading Rep Theatre has announced the first casting for its upcoming production of Noël Coward’s Private Liveswhich runs from 16 April to 19 May 2026, with a press night on Monday 20 April.
Amy Di Bartolomeo, Olivier Award nominated for her role in the original cast of The Devil Wears Pradawill make her Reading Rep debut as Amanda. Orla O’Sullivan, a familiar face to Reading Rep audiences, returns to play Sybil.
The pair will bring Coward’s sharply drawn characters to life in this revival of the classic comedy, which follows two former spouses who find themselves honeymooning in adjacent hotel rooms with their new partners.
 
 
 
 
The production will be directed by Matthew Forbes. Of the casting, he said: “I’m delighted to return to Reading Rep to bring Private Lives to the stage. It’s a privilege to explore Coward’s work with a world-class creative team and immensely talented cast. Amy brings her razor sharp wit, charisma, and an emotional intelligence that will make Coward’s language truly sing. Known for her stand out performances on some of London’s most prestigious stages I’m thrilled that she is joining us in this intimate setting; where every glance, pause, and cutting remark lands with thrilling immediacy. It’s a joy to be reunited with Orla after working together on The Snow Queen. Orla has that rare instinct for both comedy and vulnerability, and as a much-loved presence at Reading Rep I’m sure audiences will be delighted. Between them there’s an electricity that feels completely right for Private Lives. I’m incredibly excited to get them in a rehearsal room together; I think audiences are going to see something extraordinary.”
Matthew Forbes returns to the theatre following the success of 2024’s The Snow Queenbringing extensive experience across major UK venues and international collaborations.
Amy Di Bartolomeo joins the production with an impressive list of credits including Glory Ride, Light in the Piazza, SIX, In Pieces, We Will Rock You, Bat Out Of Hell, Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Starlight Express.
Orla O’Sullivan appears for the fifth time at Reading Rep, with previous credits including A Christmas Carol, The Snow Queen, It’s A Wonderful Life and Potted Pantoalongside screen appearances in The Night In, Midnight Caller, PRAGMA and Ding-Ding, Next.
The creative team includes set and costume designer Kevin Jenkins, lighting designer Elliot Griggs, sound designer Raffaela Pancucci, production manager Jordan Harris, casting by Jill Green Casting, and costume supervisor Sheree Paton. Josette Shipp joins as stage manager on book, with Lucy Skinner as assistant stage manager.
