There’s a chance that even with a prequalification, you might not get approved for an AmeriSave loan. According to Consumer Affairs, in 2021 the lender denied more purchase applications than it closed on (9,417 compared to 8,782, respectfully).

If that’s you, there are some next steps to take. First, ask your AmeriSave representative why you were denied and what you can do before completing another application. If you want to apply again with AmeriSave, how long do you have to wait before attempting another preapproval? Is your DTI too high to qualify? Can a co-signer help you qualify? The rep should have these answers so don’t be afraid to ask.

If not, consider finding another lender. The best mortgage lenders are those that offer easy prequalification, post current interest rates and terms, and have low barriers for qualifying for a mortgage. Try comparing a few different lenders before completing another application.
