The Amazon Fire Omni ticks a lot of boxes from what we need from a new 55-inch set: a bright QLED panel with crisp 4K resolution, adaptive brightness, hands-free Alexa voice control and easy access to a vast library of movie and catch-up apps right from the home screen without the hassle of plugging in a streaming stick.

Simplicity is the appeal of this smart TV – and now, thanks to the second Amazon Prime Day event of the year – Amazon Prime Big Deal Days – the 50-inch and 55-inch models are all discounted by at least 40%.

These sizes strike the best balance between specs and size for most living rooms, and the 55-inch set is now 43% off. That’s ideal for your next cosy movie marathon with family, or keeping the kids occupied with Ms. Rachel so you can finally drink that well-deserved coffee.

The 55-inch Amazon Fire TV Omni is currently down to £429.99 from the £749.99 RRP – and that’s an impressive £320 saving — plus it’s an all-time low for this telly.

It was briefly at £499.99 in Amazon’s Spring Sale and the Black Friday sales in November, but this is even lower and it tends to go for around £600 most of the time. Overall, this is an extremely enticing price slash – and one that matches the price in Amazon’s July sales event.

You’ll find all of the major streamers pre-installed, including Netflix, Prime Video, AppleTV+, Paramount+, Disney+ and Freevee, plus catch-up services such as BBC iPlayer, Channel 4 and ITVX – just sign into your account and you’re ready to go. When you do, the QLED screen means the visuals and brightness are better than standard LED sets, too.

When the TV isn’t being used for movies and shows, you can rely on the “ambient mode” to show artwork, family photos and widgets, including smart home control, a shopping list and weather updates.

Look on the front of the TV and you see a little bar under the middle of the frame – that includes a sensor that senses the conditions of the room and automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen. And yes, like most of Amazon’s products, you get Alexa voice control built-in – just tap a button on the remote and control the telly with your voice.

Our only major gripe is that the feet are wide apart and are fixed, so it may not sit well on smaller cabinets. If you wall mount your TV, this won’t be an issue at all.

While you’ll find much slimmer sets with better picture quality on some rival sets from Samsung, Sony and LG by paying around £200 to £300 more – especially if it’s an OLED model – this is a top-value option for a 55-inch 4K set if you only have £500 to spend.

Don’t wait too long, however: this limited-time deal is only available for Prime members (you can sign up for a free trial to get it, though) and just until the end of the 48-hour event.
