As we wave goodbye to the warm weather and steel ourselves for the chillier autumn days, many are already worried about the looming heating bills. For those looking to stay cosy without cranking up the central heating, a portable heater could be the cost-effective answer.

Over at Amazon, the Dreo 16 Inch Space Portable Heater is grabbing shoppers’ attention with its price cut from £74.99 down to a more budget-friendly £59.99. Not only does this sleek, contemporary heater come with a reasonable price tag, but it’s also efficient in power use.

Its 1800W output can cost as little as 40p per hour to run, offering a cost-effective option compared to keeping the boiler running. Thanks to its size, it’s capable of warming up a room quite comfortably, the Daily Express reports.

It’s not just about heating capabilities; this quiet operator won’t interrupt your peaceful evenings or sleep. It also boasts convenient and user-friendly additions such as sleep timers and a remote control, plus an eco mode that can lower running costs down to around 20p per hour.

Free Amazon Prime membership

Fancy free takeaway delivery? Access to Deliveroo Plus is one of a host of advantages of Amazon Prime membership, including exclusive Prime Day discounts and perks on Hello Fresh, music, books and Prime Video. Usually £8.99 a month, you can now get a 30-day free trial to get access to the latest deals.

The Dreo 16 Inch Space Portable Heater has racked up a 4.5-star rating after nearly 2,000 Amazon reviews. One impressed customer said of the device: “I don’t know anything more I can say about these incredible heaters. I’ve recommended them to all of my mates. Bought two of them and saved a fortune in electric bills.”

Another satisfied shopper said: “Heats my studio up very quickly. The ECO mode works well and the heater switches off once the room is at the desired temperature. Then, the heater kicks in again if the temperature drops too much. It looks very stylish and sleek, too.”

A third shopper praised the ‘amazing’ heater, writing: “We bought this for our caravan because the gas heater in our van doesn’t work. This is an amazing replacement. It gets it up to temperature within a few minutes and because it is thermostatically controlled, you can leave it set to your desired temperature and it will kick in and out as required. It’s relatively quiet, too. It appears to be well built and comes with a little remote, which can be handy.”

But it’s not all warmth and comfort in the feedback section, as a less enchanted customer noted the imperfect silence of their device.

“It simply isn’t silent,” they wrote, while another shared their grievances about the humidity factor, saying it “makes the air too dry”.

If these heaters don’t spark your interest, the 2500W 11 Fin Electric Oil Filled Radiator Heater is more than half price from Debenhams at £51.93, though this may cost more to run at up to 68p per hour, depending on its usage. Elsewhere, the compact 2000W Thermo Fan Heater from Dunelm comes in at an affordable £14 and is ideal for heating a smaller space.
