An alarm clock designed to help banish the winter blues with a ‘sunrise’ light feature and new brain-stimulating wake-up calls has been praised by users, who say it’s “perfect for the winter months when it’s darker in the morning”. The Lumie Sunrise Wake-up Alarm is on sale on Amazon for £32.99, with £17 off its usual price of £49.99.

The Lumie Sunrise Wake-up Alarm has a “sunrise” light function that starts 30 minutes before your wake-up time and slowly illuminates to gently wake you up. Users can select an alarm beep or one of five natural sounds – goats, frogs, cats and two types of chirping birds – as an optional additional alarm. The alarm’s snooze option allows an additional 5 minutes. It also has a 30-minute soothing sunset option that can be used to relax at bedtime.

The Lumie Sunrise Wake-up Alarm has a warm white light for sunrise and sunset, plus six colors to suit your mood – green, red, blue, pink, orange and light blue. As well as Amazon, the alarm is available at Boots for £39.99 and Argos for £49.99.

Founded in 1992, Lumie researches the body’s circadian rhythm and the effects of light and sound on our mood to create a SAD lamp. The company states: “For over 30 years, we’ve been researching, designing and developing lamps to help fight SAD and the winter blues and improve sleep. We even invented the first wake-up light in 1992.”

The Lumie Sunrise Wake-up Alarm is an Amazon’s Choice product and has been rated 4.3 out of 5 by 2,900 users on Amazon, with over 4,000 purchases made in the past month. Among reviewers, 63 percent have awarded it 5 out of 5 stars.

One happy buyer wrote that it was “perfect for the winter months when it’s darker in the morning”, while another added: “It’s absolutely brilliant. I love hearing the birds chirping first and it gets progressively louder until you turn off the alarm .”

Another reviewer wrote: “Goodbye seasonal depression! This is the BEST thing I’ve ever bought from Amazon. Having always been interested in buying a SAD lamp, I’ve been looking around for the best and most cost effective and this is it .”

But not everyone was convinced. One reviewer said: “This watch is as expected and the gentle sunrise helps us wake up gradually. What I don’t appreciate are the red numbers on the watch. They are so bright and red at night, if you happen to encounter it. too waking up they really hurt your eyes, I have to turn the dial away from my face, which defeats the object of the sunrise a little.”
