Amazon has slashed the price of two highly rated electric epilators that people say are better than traditional hand files. Own Harmony Callus Remover is just £21.24 (down from £24.99) for the men’s product and £20.39 (£20.39) for the women’s version.

Buying direct from Own Harmony would cost £25.52 (down from £35.90) - although the men’s product is sold out – and £23.94 (down from £31.93 respectively. From OnBuy, the men’s product costs £30, 33.

The difference seems to be marketing, as both offer pretty much the same features – so choose whichever suits you best. They both have a two-hour quick charge, are waterproof (but not foolproof) and come with three rolls in the box. They work by spinning rollers with embedded crystals to file away hard skin at top speed.

The convex curved rollers work around the foot and there is the option of using an extra coarse one for particularly tough places. These would be ideal to combine with a foot cream for dry and cracked feet – with O’Keeffe’s being a popular option for both men and women.

The unscented cream increases moisture levels and creates a protective layer on the skin’s surface. It costs £8.50 from Amazon (£7.65 if you subscribe) for 91g, or Superdrug sells a 60g tub for £5.99. The electric hair remover currently has 4.4 out of 38,421 ratings.

One person said: “I’ve been using this now off and on for 3 months. I had a conventional Scholl model for many years which worked quite well but the motor seemed to slow down so I bought this Own Harmony, shame about the name plus a claim that it’s for men. But it’s good. The motor has a good speed. The dry skin remover is very good and so far and the drum shows no signs of losing its size or function. It’s battery powered but that’s good.”

Another added: “I’ve tried many products over the years for dry cracked heels. Pedal eggs. Scholl battery foot file. Hand foot files. Pumice stones. This is the best by far. It’s small but powerful. Leaves heels much softer and less prone to cracking. Breaks accumulates without discomfort. The fact that it is rechargeable is one of its best features. No more wasting batteries. I had a problem with the item which was immediately resolved by the customer service team. Their after care is excellent. Would recommend this unit. Really reasonable price . Efficient. Great little company.”

Alternatively, Boots sell a Scholl Pedi hard skin removal kit which comes with a refill and a mask. Worth £52.18, it currently retails for £30.
