Muslim delivery couriers observing Ramadan will have access to free iftar meals following a partnership between several UK restaurants and Uber Eats.
The initiative, called Sundown Spotswas launched in 2023 by BAFTA-winning grime artist and Big Zuu chef. It focuses on towns and cities with large Muslim communities, ensuring that couriers who spend their days delivering food to others can easily find a warm, nourishing meal when it’s time to break their fast.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is a sacred time of fasting, reflection, and community for Muslims around the world. From dawn to sunset, those observing refrain from food and drink, making iftar – the meal that breaks the fast – a highly anticipated moment each day.
Recognising the challenges couriers face during this time, several well-known restaurants across London will be offering free takeaway meals at night and early morning. Participating locations include:
- Lahore Karahi (Tooting)
- Smacks (Thornton Heath)
- Turkuoise (Bethnal Green)
- Chicago Grill
For restaurant owners, this initiative is about more than just food – it’s about representation and community support.
The first Sundown Spot will launch in London on Thursday, March 20, followed by expansions into several major UK cities, including:
- Edinburgh
- Glasgow
- Leicester
- Nottingham
- Manchester
- Birmingham
- Bradford
By providing free meals for couriers who are fasting, this initiative ensures that those working hard throughout Ramadan are supported and appreciated – one meal at a time.
