Aldi plans to refurbish more than 30 stores in the UK this summer and invest £90 million over the course of 2024.

More than 100 stores across the UK, from Crewe to Cardiff and Didcot to Dumfries, will receive a range of upgrades over the coming year.

Improvements include creating space and incorporating sustainable features such as energy-efficient technology. This means installing refrigerator doors to reduce energy consumption and using natural refrigerants to minimize the carbon footprint.

The work was due to take place between June and August, with certain shops such as Leek Newport and Brierly Hill experiencing the most significant changes.

Jonathan Neale, Aldi UK national property manager, said: “Aldi attracted more new customers than any other grocer over the past 12 months and we want to continue to offer our customers the best possible in-store experience.

“We are committed to ensuring that the shopping experience is as great as the high-quality products and service we offer. An important part of these changes is also finding ways to reduce the environmental impact as we continue to grow our retail space across the country.
