Even before Daniel Craig’s last hurrah as 007 in No Time To Die hit screens in 2021, the question as to who will replace him has been on everyone’s lips.
Previous rumours have included Idris Elba, Regé-Jean PageCillian Murphy, and Tom Hardy, but it looks like the new James Bond could be Aaron Taylor-Johnsonwith reports suggesting the 33-year-old actor is expected to “accept the role” soon.
According to a report in The Sunthe hope is for the next Bond film to commence filming this year, and they have made Aaron Taylor-Johnson their choice. You’ll recognise him from films including Kick-Ass (2010), Tenet (2020), Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging (2008), and Bullet Train (2022) – and should he accept the alleged offer, he will play James Bond for the 26th film in the franchise.
Speaking to the newspaper, a source has told them: “Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it. The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back.
“As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement.”
Daniel Craig played 007 in five films—Casino Royale, Quantum Of Solace, Skyfall, Spectre, and No Time To Die—and took on a 15-year stint as Ian Fleming’s famous spy.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson was asked last week if he would take the role of 007, and certainly did not to any denying. He said: “I find it charming and wonderful that people see me in that role. I take it as a great compliment.”
Swapping the cape in Kick-Ass to the suave suits, martinis, and gadgets of Mr. Bond. Get you someone else who can do both (you can’t!).
Production is due to begin at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire later this year, so we should hope for an announcement on the next 007 very soon.
