Calling all history buffs, fans of visually stunning shows, and those who love to explore London after dark – we’ve got just the event for you. Running for a limited time this month, Crown and Coronation is a dazzling light show that is taking over the walls of the Tower of London.
The show takes visitors on a journey through time, like an enormous history documentary playing out over the walls of a London institution. The presentation explores coronations throughout history, stretching more than 1,000 years into the past. Marvellously detailed footage of the Crown Jewels will also dapple the iconic White Tower as part of the show.
Afterwards, guests can head behind the scenes for a special after-hours viewing of the Crown Jewels, without the usual crowds. You’ll learn all about them, before getting the chance for a proper up-close look without anyone jostling you out of the way for a picture.
The re-presentation of the Jewel House at the Tower of London, was made possible through a partnership between Historic Royal Palaces and Garrard. The Crown and Coronation light show saw HRP partnering with Luxmuralis and resulted in a collaboration between artist Peter Walker and composer David Harper
You’ll have to act fast if you want to see it in London because the Tower of London shows are only running until November 25. Adult tickets to Crown and Coronation at the Tower of London cost £19.50, while children can nab a ticket for £12.50. If you’re a Historic Royal Palaces member you can take advantage of a 10% discount.
National Crown and Coronation tour
Following these November performances, Crown and Coronation will go on a tour of sights across the UK, displaying the light show across the following venues:
- Exeter Cathedral (January 9 – 13, 2024)
- Ely Cathedral (February 2 – 10, 2024)
- Carlisle Castle and Cathedral (February 15 – 17, 2024)
- Winchester Cathedral (March 5 – 9, 2024)
- Canterbury Cathedral (September 24 – 28, 2024)
More venues are due to be announced, with further dates planned throughout 2024 and 2025.
