If you’re getting a little bored of bog-standard sandwiches and scones at tea-time, you’re going to want to hear about this. Set to turn London’s afternoon tea scene – quite literally – upside down; a twit-ally brilliant new event is heading to the capital city this summer, dedicated to Roald Dahl’s most loveable and loathe-able couple, The Twits.

The London Marriot Hotel County Hall have partnered with the Roald Dahl Story Company to create a gruesomely glorious afternoon tea experience. Bringing the iconic story straight to your plate, The Twits Afternoon Tea will give you the unique opportunity to dive head-first into the pages of the beloved book at a quintessentially British hotel that offers sweeping views across the River Thames. What more could you ask for?

On the menu at The Twits Afternoon Tea

The menu (which, rather fittingly, will be served upside down and adorned with Quentin Blake illustrations) is jam-packed with terrifically twit-ish treats, inspired by some of the pair’s most unforgettable antics. Guests can expect to gorge on scrumptiously stomach-turning takes on ‘Wormy Spaghetti’, ‘Mrs Twit’s Bird Pie, and ‘Maggoty Green Cheese and Mouldy Cornflakes’. They all sound delicious, right?

The sweet treats are inspired by the book’s beloved characters, with Muggle-Wump brownies and jam Roly-Poly sponge on the menu. And – of course – no afternoon tea would be complete without scones – but theses are no regular scones; these are Trick or Twit scones. Guests will either get a buttermilk scone or a marmite scone, but they won’t know which one until they bite into it. Yikes!

To wash all the gruesome goodies down, adults can enjoy a selection of teas (or even add a glass of champers), whilst children can choose to sip on ‘Skillywiggler Lemonade with Frogspawn’ or opt for the ‘Roly-Poly Berry Juice’. The interiors and décor will also pay homage to the story and its characters, with nods to their eccentric ways and foolish pranks.

It’s sure to be an experience like no other in London, and whilst The Twits may hate most things, I actually think they’d be pretty darn fond of this.

You’ll be able to tuck into this twit-some tea daily (between 12pm-5pm) from August 15 for a limited time only. Find out more and plan your visit here.
