The sunset over the London Eye and the River Thames

It’s fairly difficult to take a bad photo of London, isn’t it? Come rain or shine, our picture-perfect capital is (unlike myself) camera ready at every moment. And in case anybody dares disagree, we now officially have it in writing, as a London attraction has just been crowned the most photogenic landmark in the UK.

Photography retailer, Jessopsdecided to do some research to uncover which of the country’s landmarks are the most visually appealing. They compiled a list of the most iconic landmarks in the UK and then scoured Instagram to rank them based on hashtag data. Admittedly, it’s not necessarily the most scientific study I’ve heard of – but based on the findings, I’m happy to go along with it.

Jessops totted up the number of Instagram hashtags for each landmark and revealed that the most photogenic in the country is our lovely London Eye, boasting a hefty 3.8 million hashtags. Following closely in second place is Big Ben, with 3.47 million hashtags. In fact, out of the top ten most photogenic landmarks, seven of them are in London. Not bad, hey?

Perched proudly on the banks of the River Thames, offering sweeping views across the city; the London Eye has become a legendary part of London’s skyline since opening its doors pods in 2000. It ‘s become on of the UK’s most attractions, with millions of tourists and locals boarding the wheel each year. And a whole lot of them evidently snapping photos of it as they do.

The most photogenic landmarks in the UK, according to Jessops:

  1. The London Eye
  2. Big Ben
  3. Tower Bridge
  4. Buckingham Palace
  5. Stonehenge
  6. The Natural History Museum
  7. Edinburgh Castle
  8. The Tower of London
  9. St Paul’s Cathedral
  10. Mount Snowdon

So, there you have it. Grab your cameras and your walking shoes, folks – happy snapping!
