The calculations have been done and it’s been determined that there really isn’t a better way to spend a Saturday in London than slowly pottering around a market; carefully perusing through items as you sip on an irritatingly (to others, not to meeee) tiny coffee and make cheery small talk with those around you.

If you’re after a new place to have this exact weekend a few times over, then you should be pointed in the direction of Deptford Flower Marketwhich opens up at the beginning of February.

Where Have All The Flowers Gone stand at a market

Deptford Flower Market

We have partners Ru and Stu to thank for this new market, with the florists setting up their Where Have All The Flowers Gone stall to sling beautiful bouquets out of an original 1960s milk float. They’re running the market space as a whole, too, and are hoping to provide a safe space for queer, local, and underrepresented people to sell their wares and bring the community together.

Arriving as a new space for creative, foodie, and flower endeavours, Deptford Flower Markets hits the market yard by the station on February 1, and will run every Saturday between 9am and 4pm. It is set out to be a hub for creative makers and buyers alike to join as one in the community, and the space will feature everything from LGBTQIA+ books to sumptuous tea and delicious blondies (with flowers all around to be found, of course!).

Celebrating the small joys and colours in everyday life, there are already a number of stalls signed up to feature at the market, including a spot for the radical queer bookshop The Common Press; a stand for sweet treat extraordinaires Slate n Crumb; and a store for the clothing with a queer twist from Bear107. Expect to see these and many more spots at the market upon its opening at the start of next month.

Deptford Flower Markets will begin on February 1 and take place every Saturday from 9am – 4pm. Find it at Carriage Way, Deptford Market Yard, SE8 (nearest station is Deptford). You can find out more about the market and even apply for your own stall space here.
