Cloyce Martin is the latest chef Sailboat below deck season 5, but he’s already proven to be a villain. Sailboat below deck season 5 was highly anticipated following the alleged sexual misconduct of Commander Gary King in the previous season. According to former Bravo makeup artist Samantha Suarez, Gary behaved inappropriately toward her when the production asked her to escort the actor back to her room. While Gary has undoubtedly been cast as the villain, the real villain of the upcoming season is Chef Cloyce.
Captain Glenn Shepherd, Gary and Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher were the only returning cast members. Sailboat below deck season 5. Chef Cloyce took over the kitchen as a fresh and overconfident actor in the new season. Chef Cloyce will be joined by chief engineer Davide Morosi, who replaces former chief engineer Colin Macrae, stews Diana Cruz and Danni Ware, and deck heads Keith Allen and Emma Crouch. With all the new faces, it’s surprising that Chef Cloyce is already a standout villain.
8 Cloyce talks back to Daisy
She is not impressed with his behavior
Chef Cloyce and Daisy have already had problems Sailboat below deck season 5. During the last charter Daisy expected Chef Cloyce to follow her timing cues for dinner servicebut Chef Cloyce grew frustrated when Daisy sent people to deliver messages instead of speaking to him directly. At one point, when dessert was delayed, he remarked that he was waiting for Daisy’s signal, prompting her to exclaim in frustration that they were “to fight“if he questioned her decisions. Instead of remaining professional, Chef Cloyce has shown a willingness to talk back.

Understandably, Daisy expressed that Chef Cloyce was “throw (him) under the bus” by not preparing the courses when he gave the all-clear. In recognition, Chef Cloyce expressed that “clear” was different for her as she wanted direct updates from him instead of third party instructions.
7 Chef Cloyce didn’t come on deck in a sailboat to make friends
He doesn’t care if someone likes him
After the first charter, the crew went to Ibiza together, typically Sailboat below deck crew after charter. However, when he was hanging out with Gary and deckhand Keith after going out, Chef Cloyce made it clear that he wasn’t working on a yacht to make friends. The three sat around drinking and smoking, joking. Chef Cloyce expressed that the camaraderie was unexpected because he did not intend to form friendships. His behavior is particularly strange because he has shown a romantic interest in Daisy despite treating her badly.
It’s always a red flag when someone says, “I’m not here to make friends.” Chef Cloyce is the villain.
It definitely is tension between Chef Cloyce and the rest of the castwhich sometimes doesn’t fit with the teamwork dynamics of the yacht. Although he maintains his standards in the kitchen, his approach has raised concerns from captain Glenn, who has already noted the challenges of Cloyce’s integration into the team. Saying friendship isn’t a priority is usually reserved for reality TV villains.
6 Cloyce disobeyed Captain Glenn by spending time with guests
He should have been getting ready for lunch
Chef Cloyce got into trouble with Captain Glenn when Bravo the star decided to socialize with the guests instead of preparing lunch. Whatever patience Captain Glenn had with Chef Cloyce during the first charter flight was completely shattered when the guests’ bellies began to grow and their chef enjoyed a sunny day on the water with them. Before leaving, Chef Cloyce assured Daisy that he had prepared the salad and would bake the chicken and salmon while he was gone, planning a straightforward, light lunch.
Chef Cloyce’s overconfidence will be his undoing in Below Deck Sailing Yacht.
However, her absence caused Captain Glenn to become increasingly concerned as he inspected the galley and found minimal preparation for the upcoming meal, though he noted the mess in his wake. Captain Glenn, frustrated with the delay and Chef Cloyce’s decision to prioritize socializing over kitchen dutiesexpressed his disappointment and asked to bring him back immediately. It was shocking behavior so early in the charter season, making him a potential villain going forward.
5 Chef Cloyce was not amused last night
He doesn’t follow Daisy’s system
It’s a good thing Chef Cloyce doesn’t care about making friends, because he certainly isn’t going to earn them based on his behavior. When Chef Cloyce offered to buy the crew two bottles of wine, Daisy explained that everyone would take turns footing the bill throughout the charter season. Chef Cloyce immediately started complaining loudly that he wasn’t having five or six drinks, which made the whole system unfair.
Crew members typically earn more than 1,000 euros per charter. One dinner out won’t break the bank.
Daisy has a solid cook of Cloyce’s age and experience on Parsifal III, and if she didn’t want to be the villain, she wouldn’t rock the boat. However, Chef Cloyce doesn’t want to be a team playerwhich is why he hit it off for not being on his turn with the bill. It was silly because the bill would likely be the same every time, making it a one-time investment for each crew member. Chef Cloyce may want to save and support his family at home, but he didn’t make a good case for it.
4 Cloyce acts like she’s the best chef ever
He’s a little too confident
Although there have been some colorful characters starring as chefs Sailboat below deckChef Cloyce might be the most overconfident chef the show has ever seen. Chef Cloyce’s experience as a 22-year-old chef is definitely impressivebut he needs to stop the act and really heal or he might look like a villain. Despite Cloyce’s confidence in her cooking skills and belief that minimal preparation is sufficient, her behavior – such as abandoning her responsibilities to participate in guest activities – is unacceptable.

Chef Cloyce left the kitchen almost untouched, while the chicken and salmon were left raw, just 80 minutes before the scheduled lunch, when Captain Glenn rushed to get him back on board. Chef Cloyce’s indifference to the need to balance work and fun even led to miscommunication with Chief Stew Daisy, which added to service delays, including a 17-minute delay in dessert service. Although the guests were happy with the bread pudding, Chef Cloyce needs to stop bragging and step it up.
3 Chef Cloyce doesn’t listen to Daisy’s orders
He makes her hate herself
Chef Cloyce is on thin ice with Daisy and Captain Glenn. It was a giant mistake when Chef Cloyce decided to use his own terminology and timing for the dessert instead of listening to Daisy’s orders. He expected Daisy herself to relay this information directly, creating a gap that led to a 17-minute delay in service. Not listening to Daisy proves Chef Cloyce’s villain status and the desire to cause trouble with Parsifal III. The next day, due to Chef Cloyce’s decision to hang out with the guests, Daisy had to deal with hungry guests for fifteen minutes.

The tense dynamic between Daisy and Chef Cloyce continued when Cloyce decided to order a cake for a guest’s 60th birthday instead of baking it, leading to an accident when she tried to reheat it, causing it to fall apart. Daisy commented that Chef Cloyce’s shortcut was “terrible.” Captain Glenn seemed to be on Daisy’s side in the situation, but that doesn’t make Cloyce any easier to deal with.
2 Chef Cloyce doesn’t want to be a team player
He tried to do Diana’s job
Chef Cloyce has proven that he is not a team player, which is essential for a chef working on a sailboat. Not only did he neglect his prep duties with the guests, he tried to take over Diana’s job. He joked and poured wine for the guests before Diana could take care of them as a decorator. She wasn’t entirely impressed and felt like he had completely sidelined her. Diana just wanted to do her job on the hit Bravo show.
Perhaps if Chef Cloyce had been cooking lunch during this time instead of fooling around with the order guests in the water, he would have had time to make the cake more suitable for a 60th birthday party. As Daisy pointed out, the tip guests leave depends on the chef’s skills. If Chef Cloyce doesn’t want to split the alcohol bill after every charter, the least he can do is have the crew make a fair tip after every charter.
1 Chef Cloyce made hypocritical rules for his kitchen
He doesn’t cook to order
Chef Cloyce disagreed with Daisy’s approach to taking individual guest orders, which made her work in the kitchen more complicated. He also criticized the decor staff for supposed communication breakdowns, such as when he insisted Daisy personally call him to confirm when the tables were being cleared, even though she had already sent a message through the deck team. This prompted Daisy to mention her lack of teamwork and possible diva behavior. It wasn’t a big deal when guests at the first Charter wanted their steaks cooked a different way, but Chef Cloyce was furious and blamed Daisy.
Chef Cloyce should also be expected to make a birthday cake, but since he claimed to hate making cakes, he ordered one from a bakery and heated it in the oven. It looked horrible and should have been against the rules of a luxury yacht chef. Between his arrogant attitude, hypocritical rules, and combative personality, Chef Cloyce is definitely a villain Sailboat below deck season 5
