Kenny and Armando became good friends. They met over their shared experiences as gay single fathers dealing with personal loss.

It didn’t take long for Kenny and Armando to become everyone’s favorite 90 day fiance couple, although a few onlookers could see through the facade. Kenny and Armando’s perfectly managed televised relationship has cracks that, while not deep, can be dangerous. A look at how Kenny and Armando’s money problems and baby drama are just a surface level indication of much bigger issues bubbling underneath and may eventually tear them apart.

Kenny and ArmandoTheir social media pages reveal that they live a king-size life. They have embraced luxury and aesthetics in their lifestyle, and every moment they share on IG looks like it belongs in a movie. They visit the trendiest places, attend concerts, travel abroad and wear the most stylish clothes and accessories. Living the perfect life comes at a cost, though, and while the couple haven’t admitted to money problems, there have been signs. Armando and Kenny’s baby journey almost came to a screeching halt in Season 5.

“We chose an egg donor, and she went through the whole process, and the day she was supposed to come, she dreamed of the clinic.”

The entire process cost over $74,000 and had to be redone. That means the cost of having a baby alone jumped to nearly $150,000 for the couple. No one knows if it was successful, but it doesn’t look like Kenny and Armando are hiding the newborn baby, so it looks like the money went down the drain after all. The financial loss may be too much for Kenny and Armando to recover from as they haven’t been on the show for a while and have resorted to alternative methods to make money, such as selling storybooks online.

Armando wants the baby more than Kenny

Kenny worked as a real estate agent at home. He retired after moving to Mexico. Most of the money for the baby trip could have come from Kenny’s savings since Armando didn’t have a full-time job and worked as a freelance architect. Kenny never said it out loud, but the reason he didn’t want a child might have been because of money rather than his age. Kenny already had four grown children and grandchildren in the United States, but Armando forced him to have another child with him. In addition, Armando was against adopting the child.

Armando only thought of himself when Kenny had sacrificed his whole life for him. Armando’s difficult behavior in TOW Season 5 was revealed when he agreed to move to Mexico City only because it gave him better fertility treatment options, specifically surrogacy. She didn’t seem to understand the POV of her 61-year-old husband, who wasn’t excited about changing diapers and knew Armando was going to be raising that kid mostly on his own in 10-15 years.

Kenny wouldn’t teach Spanish to Armando

Kenny drew the line when it came to doing whatever it took to keep Armando happy. He flat out refused to study Spanish. On his first day in Mexico, Armando told Kenny that he needed to start learning Spanish, at least “basics.” Armando tried to teach Kenny how to say “Welcome,“which means”Welcome” in English, and Kenny tried to mix up the pronunciation on purpose. Armando told the cameras that Kenny knew “practically nothing” and predicted that it will be a challenge for him. Five years later, Kenny still doesn’t know the language.

Although Kenny wanted to move to Mexico City, he did not try to learn Spanish. Armando pointed out that it wouldn’t be the same as walking to their previous local supermarket. Kenny had to ask the vendors what he needed. He didn’t even have a translation app on his phone. Kenny later claimed he was dyslexic. However, Kenny’s lack of Spanish meant that Armando would have more work and responsibility.

Kenny felt uncomfortable in Mexico for a long time

Kenny had been waiting”a little” culture shock when he moved to Mexico. He knew that the land was far from what he was used to. He called it “spoiled” and described it as a place he would have avoided in the United States. He felt disgust when he saw a woman using her bare hands to cook food at a local restaurant. He expected her to wear gloves. “Do all the restaurants here only serve Mexican?” he ignorantly asked the cameras. He complained that he wasn’t going to go out alone.

Kenny was surprised at how uncomfortable he felt since he had been there on vacation. Kenny yelled that he had to eat guacamole because he didn’t like it. He was annoyed that he had to use the traditional Mexican bathroom at the taco stand because it didn’t have a flush. It was “nothing like what he had seen before.” He wanted to throw his shoes out after wearing them. It wasn’t Armando’s fault that the bathroom was dirty, but Kenny made him feel like it was his responsibility because it was his country and he was acting like a grumpy baby.

Armando’s tragic past cast a long shadow

Armando’s late wife died a few months after he came to him. She was Armando’s childhood sweetheart. He had known he was gay growing up, but pushed his feelings aside because society expected him to be a macho man. Armando and his ex-wife separated and decided to divorce, but she was pregnant with their second child at the time. He had anger issues which added to their relationship problems. Armando met her the night she died and the couple had an argument. He decided to leave the situation and return home.

While driving on the highway, Armando was suddenly hit from behind and “to strike again“a moment later. He realized it was his ex-wife and before he knew it, he lost control of his vehicle and died at the scene. Armando seems to carry guilt for the death of his ex-wife and child in his heart, even though years have passed. The death of his unborn child also forced Armando to want a baby again.

Kenny’s children may not fully approve of his relationship

Kenny’s children are suspicious of Armando’s intentions

Kenny’s children have often expressed disapproval of his and Armando’s relationship. Kenny and Armando’s significant age difference and Kenny’s desire to have another child at an older age, which his children feel is impractical and burdensome for them as they would be responsible for caring for a younger sibling later in life. Kenny’s kids are almost the same age as Armando, which makes the situation so messy. They don’t agree with Kenny having another baby with Armando as it would be an added liability for them in their later years.

90 day fiance‘s Armando may be looking at the situation like Kenny’s kids still don’t accept him after spending years with an American man and proving he’s in it for the long haul. Armando cannot move to the United States because he wants to keep his minor daughter with a dead parent closer to her grandparents. Kenny’s kids are adults with lives of their own and they need to understand that it’s okay for them to let their father live his life.

Although Kenny’s youthful appearance doesn’t make him look his age, there is a significant age difference between him and Armando that cannot be ignored. Kenny comes from a life of privilege and doesn’t seem to understand or empathize with Armando’s problems, especially when it comes to Armando’s disapproval of his choices. Kenny’s selfishness has come to the fore in situations. Privileged Kenny couldn’t understand Armando’s problem with his family because he couldn’t understand Armando’s relationship with his father.
