Netflix’s version of the hugely popular Book series 3 Body problems fast approaching. Before the first season begins, check out our full rundown of all the cast members we know so far, along with the first details about their characters.
Chinese author Liu Cixin set the science fiction genre on fire with his trilogy of books dealing with the aftermath of humanity’s first contact with an alien race. Since its English translation, the series has only exploded in popularity, to the point where the Game of Thrones showrunners made it their first project since leaving the HBO series.
Although there is a long way to go and a lot of time to talk about too, season 1 of their Netflix adaptation appears to cover the events of the first book in the series, itself titled The Three-Body Problem.
So to understand the large cast before you dive in, here’s our full rundown of all the actors involved along with details on the character they play in Netflix’s 3 Body Problems.

3 Body Issues Actors and Characters
Benoît Wong: Da Shi
Benedict Wong, of Doctor Strange and Black Mirror fame, stars as Shi Qiang in 3 Body Problem, commonly known as Da Shi.
Da Shi is a police officer who happens to take the Trisolarian threat seriously much earlier than most. Da Shi begins the show by looking at the many similar deaths of famous scientists around the world.
Rosalind Chao: Ye Wenjie
Readers of the book series will be all too familiar with the name Ye Wenji, one of the main characters in the first chapter. Played once by Rosalind Chao of new Sweet Tooth fame and dozens of others before her, the central character serves largely as a catalyst for the events that will unfold over several seasons.
Zine Tseng: Ye Wenjie (Jeune)
We first see Ye Wenjie as a young girl victim of the Chinese Cultural Revolution. The character’s portrayal at this point is played by newcomer Zine Tseng in her very first major role.
Sir Jonathan Pryce: Mike Evans
Game of Thrones fans are in luck again as Sir Jonathon Pryce, aka the High Sparrow, has also reunited with the creators of the series here to take on the role of Mike Evans. A central character in the 3-body problem, Evans is represented across multiple eras, throwing his billionaire financial clout into the middle of the trisolar crisis.
Ben Schnetzer: Mike Evans (Young)
Ben Schnetzer, of Snowden and Warcraft fame, will play the younger version of Mike Evans throughout this adaptation, though it’s not yet clear what we’ll see of the character in this era.
Liam Cunningham: Thomas Wade
Last reminder of Game of Thrones, the showrunners have once again recruited Liam Cunningham, this time in the role of Thomas Wade. This character leads the largest intelligence operation in the world and therefore carries extreme weight after the discovery of Trisolaris.
Jess Hong: Jin Cheng
New Zealand newcomer and actress Jess Hong plays Jin Cheng in the Netflix series 3 Body Problems. As a new character not included in the book series, Cheng is a member of a group known as the “Oxford Five”, a select gathering of extremely talented theoretical physicists.
Jovan Adepo: Saul Durand
Next in the Oxford Five we have Jovan Adepo from Watchmen, Babylon and Overlord, taking on the role of Saul Durand. This character appears to be essential to the research team in helping to unravel the series’ central mystery.
Eiza González: Auggie Salazar
From Godzilla vs. Kong, Hobbs & Shaw and many other Hollywood films, Eiza González joins the series as Auggie Salazar. This character is also a member of the Oxford Five and is determined to help the world today, without planning what ifs for the future.
John Bradley: John Rooney
Game of Thrones fans will know John Bradley, who played Samwell Tarly in the HBO series, and now finds his showrunners in the role of Jack Rooney in 3 Body Problems. Another member of the Oxford Five, this character used his intelligence to “cultivate a gossip empire,” as an official description puts it.
Alex Sharp: Will Downing
Rounding out the Oxford Five is Alex Sharp as Will Downing. Sharp has appeared in Oscar-nominated works such as The Trial of the Chicago 7 and Living. Little is known about his character, except that he is a physics professor ready to take on his biggest challenge yet.
Marlo Kelly: Tatiana
Brand new to the series, Australian actress Marlo Kelly enters the series as Tatiana, a mysterious figure born in the shadow of Mike Evans. His inclination seems to be to embrace the alien race, whatever the cost.
More de Shimooka: Sophon
Without going into spoilers, the name Sophon may ring a few bells for readers of the book series. Here, the character of the role appears slightly different, played by Arrow Sea actress Shimooka in the virtual reality world of the series.
Saamer Usmani: Raj Varma
Saamer Usmani, who recently appeared in Succession, takes on 3 Body Problem as another new character of naval officer Raj Varma.
Eve Ridley: Adept
Young actress Eve Ridley makes her film debut in 3 Body Problems as a character named “Follower”. Exactly how this kid plays a part in it all remains to be seen.
3 Body Problem has a stacked cast for its Netflix adaptation.
