1000-lb Sisters star Amy Slaton thinks not the real reason for her weight loss was her bariatric surgery. Amy and her sister Tammy Slaton are the stars of a reality TV series that began documenting their journeys when their combined weight reached 1,000 plus pounds. Amy wanted to get rid of her health problems and become a mother, so she worked hard to get approved for gastric bypass surgery in 2019 with the help of a diet and exercise program prescribed by her doctor. Amy lost 136 pounds by sticking to her goals.

Preview clip from the new episode 1000-lb Sisters author ET Amy visits Dr. Eric Smith with her entire family, including Tammy, Chris Combs, Amanda Halterman, and Misty Slaton. Dr. Smith, who helped Tammy lose 420 pounds through diet, exercise and bariatric surgery, tells Amy that she has never seen him as a doctor before. Amy says she likes him as a person and adds that she appreciates him because she saved his family’s life. Amy was looking for a doctor she could see and also wanted to discuss her skin removal.

In a video clip from four years ago, Amy is weighed on an industrial scale in a trash can. It shows Amy’s weight at 406 pounds, and she reveals that she last weighed herself a year ago. Amy weighed 281 pounds when she saw Dr. Proctor and hopes to have lost more weight since then. He is surprised that he has lost 44 kilos. Amy is proud of herself for losing 44 pounds when Dr. Smith tells her that she weighs 237 pounds. Amy laughs that all she needed was two kids and a divorce to lose 44 pounds.

Amy’s joke doesn’t cut it, because she’s really been through a lot in the past year after her divorce from Michael Halterman and having to take care of her sons. Amy and Michael split less than four years after they married in 2019. Michael filed for divorce in March 2023. Amy talked about how Michael was not supportive and his lack of input husband and father led to their divorce. Amy expected Michael to show his love and kindness, especially since they had two children. She even accused him of alleged emotional abuse.

Amy was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, depression and acute stress disorder. She said she had PTSD from everything that happened during her breakup with Michael. Amy never wanted to seek help, but when she started therapy, she started to feel happy. She had taken a break from her weight loss journey, but Amy kept losing weight, and as she suggests, it could have been the stress of the breakup and running after Gage and Glenn. However, Amy seems to be currently dealing with issues that may have led her to rely on drugs.

It’s been a tough time for Amy, but her recent interest in dating may interfere with her responsibilities as a mother. Amy can’t keep blaming her divorce for everything, especially since she has to clean up her act soon.
